AMD Athlon XP +2500 Review

Strengths: Great overclocker!

Weakness: Knocks the fun out if you don't overclock this!

I'd say that this multiplier is 11x200 would make it run as an XP +3200 (2.2Ghz). If you were to run this multiplier 12.5x200 (2.5Ghz) you're going to need a strong motherboard that has great overclocking skills like the Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe. This is an awesome overclocker which saves you money from the other XP chips.

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83GHz Processor

Strengths: Performance: comprable to a P4 2.4 Cost: less than half the price of a P4 (around $190) Overclocking: VERY overclockable, clockspeed is 1.8ghz and i can run at 2.5

Weakness: came out on the verge of athlon64 and P5 technology

I only wrote this review to counterbalance the negative review given this product. Such reviews could steer people away from this excellent cpu, which would be sad; it is one of the best processors on the market. Initially many users may shy away from units like the 2500+, like the previous reviewer did, simply because of clock speed. Yes, this chip's clock speed (its actual mhz) is lower than...

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83GHz Processor

Strengths: Low price, superb performance when overclocked

Weakness: Rather hot

My Athlon XP 2500+ is factory locked :( , yet I manage to overclock it by simply increasing the FSB from 166 to 200 MHz on DFI NF2 Ultra B using stock HSF, with 2x256MB PC3200 DDR and GeForce FX 5200. So I run the 2500+ at 11x200 MHz (isn't it up to Athlon XP 3200+ ?), and up the Vcore a little bit to 1.725V. It works very nicely since then, despite failed the Prime95 blend test in 6 minutes....

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83GHz Processor

Strengths: Very powerful CPU if careful planning of hardware is taken

Weakness: none at all for sure

I have done 3dmark 2005 against my cousin who is running a AMD 64 3000+ processor and has the same memory and video card as me. I have out scored him on 3dmark 2005 consistantly. Very reliable system when teamed up and carefull hardware planning. I have done the work now let me pass it on to you. This I promise you is a proven system and I would not trade it for anything. Here are parts and in...

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83GHz Processor

Strengths: Adaptability. The 2500 is "sweet spot" priced and is the most economical "Barton Core" (512 Kb) CPU.

Weakness: Not recognized by older BIOS versions. The upgradeware adapter had to be ordered from Canada.

This chip is not multiplier locked and has enough cache to function with slower memory. Owners of older Athlon/Duron motherboards can set the clock at 100 Mhz and use an Upgradeware adapter board (from Bytewize Computers) to set a multiplier of 18-19 for full-speed running. Don't reuse your old Duron heatsink. Even the retail box with an AMD heatsink is only $100. At 108-114 degrees for a...

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83GHz Processor

Strengths: Price, Overclockability, speed

Weakness: this chip is usually locked from changing the multiplier

This chip is great for thoes machines that need a low cost high preforming cpu. It can also be overclocked like no other. I curently have mine running at 2.5 ghz (3500+) where the chips come stock at 1.83 ghz (2500+) I Highly recomend this chip to anyone on a budget

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83GHz Processor

Strengths: Good speed for the money, not a single app you can't throw at it

Weakness: None-honestly

I've had this cpu for a good long time and it has consistently been a solid performer. No it doesn't have HT technology but for over 2 years, this chip will still dog a P4 2.4Ghz that costs double the price. Definitely go with the OEM version and get a good HS. The stock cooler had mine get up to 67C (55C at idle). Not good. Running a Thermaltake, I got it down to 55C during peak use (48C at...
