ABIT IS7 Desktop Motherboard - Intel Intel 82865PE...Strengths: Very overclockable, tons of features, great BIOS options, awesome color, rock solid stable, a ton of USB ports, everything about it is spectacular. Weakness: The IDE connectors on the motherboard are in an odd spot, the front audio headers are a bit far away, RAM slots are placed so you most likely have to remove your video card to add/remove RAM I've had this board for about a year now and have not had a single problem. It's rock solid stable, it was rated fastest of all i865PE and i875P boards tested by [H]ardOCP and Anandtech, it allows you to use PAT, has some sweet speed increasing features, many overclocking options. I love how there are often BIOS updates (every month or so) to keep the board up to date with Intel microcode and added features. The Game Accelerator is very good (though mostly for synthetic purposes) and all of the USB ports, Firewire, included wires in the box are phenominal. I can tell you, buying this board wants me to be with ABIT the rest of my life, that's how awesome it is. I recommend it over any i865P/PE/G or i875P board! 100% of readers found this review helpful. ABIT IS7 Desktop Motherboard - Intel Intel 82865PE...Strengths: Competitive price. Good overclocking ability and performance options. Stable and no compatibility issues. Weakness: Requires fast RAM to use all performance options. Northbridge heatsink/fan can be loud. This motherboard is a solid choice if you are looking for a motherboard for your Intel Pentium 4. I am using a 3.0C "Northwood" processor in mine without issue. My RAM is not fast enough to overclock very much so I am just using the "GAT" or "Game Acceleration Technology" which is a hacked version of the "PAT" found in motherboards based on the Intel 875P chipset. I can get my RAM to work in "Street Racer" but not "F1" mode, but this is the RAM's fault, not the motherboard's. I have no complaints about the motherboard. I have not used the onboard sound so I cannot evaluate that aspect. The built-in Northbridge heatsink/fan unit can be somewhat loud but in average systems (anything built using a retail processor heatsink) it will not be heard. Some of the older boards had faulty NB HSFs but this problem has been fixed with the latest versions of the board. Overall it is probably the best buy for an Intel motherboard out there right now. It is less expensive than competing Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI boards. ABIT IS7 Desktop Motherboard - Intel Intel 82865PE...Strengths: It's a solid fast board with plenty of functions, great overclock potential. Weakness: Haven't found any so far. I bought this Abit IS7 instead of Asus P4P800SE because Asus is notorious at cutting corners, like missing caps and MSFETs. The CPU power regulators of IS7 are also much bigger in size, and it's a four phase. With water cooling I'm running a P4 2.4C at 3.2GHz. I believe adding watercooling to NB and good air flow will push it further. My target is 300FSB. At less than $90 it's a great deal. 100% of readers found this review helpful. ABIT IS7 Desktop Motherboard - Intel Intel 82865PE...Strengths: great features for the money, sata, 8 usb 2.0, onboard 6 channel sound. oh yeah and dont forget 3 firewire connections, i dont know what that other guy was saying but this board has firewire. Weakness: like others were saying it gets a little crowded, especially by the ide connectors, and the atx power cable. just make sure u buy round cables. Great board for the money. It has alot, but u will need to plan out how u hook everthing up, its a lot unorganized as far as where connections are located. But easy enough to work with. For some reason the audio inputs were mixed up on my board and the rear and front speaker inputs were reversed, i just plugged them in backwards and now its fixed. But it was super easy to set up bios and there are other nice programs it comes with to monitor cpu and flash bios. Id def buy this board again, at least so far. ABIT IS7 Desktop Motherboard - Intel Intel 82865PE...Strengths: Features, Flexibility, Price Weakness: Layout Abit comes through again with another great, economical motherboard. This board can pretty much handle anything from 400MHz FSB to 800MHz FSB with every type of connector you can want. Bios settings are extremely easy and if wanted, hands off. ABIT IS7 Desktop Motherboard - Intel Intel 82865PE...Strengths: SoftMenu is great for overclocking, TONS of BIOS options, documentation a-plenty, and it even includes a SATA cable AND power converter! Weakness: Doesn't offer firewire support, color coded panel connectors would be helpful, and rounded IDE cables would be nice. What a great board for the money! SoftMenu allows you to overclock your FSB without overclocking your PCI/AGP. The automatic fan speed adjustment is neat, but you might get annoyed by the frequent beeping as your CPU goes in and out of the acceptable temperature range. The Windows based hardware monitor is helpful, but doesn't seem to recognize the fan speed changes (you can hear the difference, though). As for the documentation, I didn't even need the manual to install this, plus I get a handy board layout map to stick inside my case! I find myself missing the Firewire support, though I don't have any devices that take advantage of it yet. Abit does offer it on some of their higher feature boards, however. Strengths: EASY INSTALLATION, BIOS UPDATE IS THE EASIEST I'VE DONE. BOARD SEEMS TO BE VERY STABLE
Weakness: NOTHING THAT WOULD DISCOURAGE ANYONE FROM BUYING THIS BOARD.
THIS IS THE FIRST NON ASUS BOARD I HAVE INSTALLED. I LIKE HOW SIMPLE THE BIOS UPDATING IS FOR THIS BOARD. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOARD FOR ANYONE THAT DOES NOT NEED A HIGH END BOARD FOR GAMING.
