Once I got this card up and running with the newest drivers and such it has preformed better than any other video card I owned. I am playing games on the highest settings that my monitor can take and it never gets slow downs. Outstanding video card and a wonderful product.

Strengths: Great card, Very stable, Performance over the top, ATI has taken the lead with this one!!

Weakness: NONE!!!!

I have just built a new system with an Asus A7N8X Deluxe MOBO and a Thoroughbred-B Athlon XP 2400, 512 DDR Memory with all the whistles and bells and the 9700 pro is just icing on the cake.

Installation was very easy, not one problem also upgraded to DirectX 9 and also installed the latest 3.0 Catalyst drivers from ATI, anyone who reads this I recommend you do the same, "WOW" what a difference 3dMark2002 @ 16,199 now that’s smoking!! With nothing overclocked.

For all of you out there having problems, I wish you weren't, If you just spend some time looking for the information to correct your problems or issues, odds are it's not a hardware issue but a operator or operating system issue and you can't expect to put this card on a hyped up pile of junk like a gateway (the guy from TN), if ATI support is so bad why don't all of you try gateway's (now there's a laugh), It’s simple resolve your issues and I'm sure you would be very happy with this card. I hate to see good products bad mouthed from ignorant people and no, not stupid people, ignorant. This card is going to set the standard for the months to come and I'm sure NVIDIA is working franticly to get back the top spot. It will be fun to see how it all plays out.

Strengths: It sounds like it has many features

Weakness: won't run hardware acceleration with top of the line computers. ATI could not fix problem even after RECALL of product.

The hardware acceleration would not work, it produced a checker boarded image on Swat3 and Warcraft3 across the whole screen. The company I bought this computer from said ATI recalled the product and had the card rebuilt with a chip added to fix the flaw. Upon re-installing the card it did not fix the problem. The computer company tried the 9700 pro on several other computers with different configurations and it would not work on ANY. ATI suggested turning all hardware accelerations OFF. Why buy the card then? After all this time with out resolution, I switched to the GE Force Ti 4600.

Strengths: Very fast. Easy to install.

Solved all the problems we were having when trying to play games and edit video. My processor sucks, but I can still play any game I've put in. I also can finally watch DVD's with no problem at all. Worth the money.

Strengths: Kick But video card, still the king of 3D Almost same perfomance as Geforce 5(fx) Very Quiet unlike Geforce FX ( loud vacume cleaner noise)

The 9700 Pro is the best out right now... I think everyone's expectations of the FX were a little too high. I think the 9700 Pro still tops the charts. Hey Extreme Gaming. the new card is out for testing, it's not out to the public, get over it... you suck. Oh and uh, grab a pc magazine, try reading it! Wichboy, you have no idea what you're talking about, and whoever said to save your money because someone would be coming out with a better card is right, but he's an idiot, companies do that for a reason, it's called competition, they might just actually want your money! Anyway I would recommend this card to anyone! it's fast, it's great and even if the FX is louder than a twister, so what, the faster, the hotter! Get over it!

Strengths: the fastest, most 3D-realistic card yet! Radeon 9700 Pro is truly the best!

this ATI card is a must-have for any system. I run an Asus A7V266-E motherboard, an Athlon XP(Thoroughbred B)2400+, 768MB PC2100 DDR-RAM, and a 80GB HD; and it runs fantastic(understatement). This video card is a must-have for any serious gamer.

Strengths: The BEST video card available bar-none! I run ALL my games (and I have over 30 new top end games) over 60fps with 1600x1200 6x fsaa, 8x ansiotropic filter!!!! Get a Gforce to do that!!!!

Weakness: Only a Nvidia zealot would tell you it was better!

Don't listen to the other morons that can't tell a car from a truck. I used a detonator remover program I downloaded from guru3d.com, installed DX9, and then my catalyst 3.0 drivers... Oh, that took an expert! (sarcasm). Card works amazing! I am running an AMD 2800+, 1gig Corsair PC3200, Asus A7N8X, and 120 WD SE HD. Take some good advice, ATi has turned aroung! Drivers are rock solid, and only show signs of improving. Tech support... well to be honest, I HAVEN'T NEEDED ANY!!!! Great job ATi, I am converted! (I was formerly an Nvidia 4600 zealot myself, but figures do not lie! ATi is the winner this round.)

Strengths: Probably a fast card but I don't know

Weakness: Installation can be very very difficult

Puting the card in the machine was no problem, but trying to uninstall the old nvidia drivers to install these was a nightmare. Also, this card had very unimpressive performance with nascar2002, the main game i got it for. my geforce 2 runs at 45 fps, with same settings the radeon ran at 15, which is hardly acceptable. On the plus side, 3dmark scores were over 11,000. By the way it was installed on a p4 2g. 473 pin, 512 meg rdram, windows xp with service pack 1. Even reformatting the drive had no success, do not buy if you want to play this game.

Everything about the 9700 is great. It's called the "Geforce killer" for a reason. With DirectX 9 almost out, you can't go wrong. It's worth the money, if you can afford it, and it will be at full optimization with a high-end system. I can't complain about anything with this card, by far ATI's best performance yet.

A note to those who are Computer-morons who claim to know how to install everything: It's not hard to install, you do need and extra power cable from the power supply, but don't go and rag on it because your celeron 333 won't take it, use common sense, and your errors are probably user errors not the hardware. Need a patch, then download it. Just because your jealous, don't hate it. -END-

If you're a gamer, and you want the best video card out there, then you better buy the Radeon 9700 Pro. This thing is incredible! If you have a computer that is fast enough to keep up with this card then you will be running every game at the maximum resolution with all the detail settings cranked up. I haven't had any real problems, just hours of fun!

Weakness: Stability, Compatibility, Tech Support

I had problems with the card for ASUS and GigaByte using the VIA KT-400 chipset and AMD 2200+ processor. When running 3D games, the program crashes when accessing Direct3D libraries or causes the computer to reboot.

I tried tech support, and they were next to useless. One tech support guy named Sammy said his info at ATI said KT-400 doesn't work with AMD. Go figure!!

I ditched and switched to nVIDIA, and had no problems. I searched on the internet and found countless others with the same problem. I also noticed some reviews gloss over the stability, but did note the crashes. It seems that the reviewers focus on limited configurations (only 1) and focus on benchmarks and not whether the card works. :-(

Stay away from ATI. This screwed people before with initial 8500 release, and now their doing it again it seems. Bad company...

Terrific card! I just built my new Athlon system and it's rock solid stable. ATI Win ME Drivers work great in Win 98SE!! Been playing BF1942, Tribes 2, and Half-Life Mods, with zero issues from day one. I have board revision #1.1 (said to have problems with some AGP 8x MOBOS), but am running this card on a Soyo SY-KT400 Dragon Ultra Platinum at full AGP 8x with zero issues.

ATI RADEON 9700 PRO Graphics Card

Strengths: It's everything I thought it would be. Performance great!

Weakness: Installing. Took me 2 hours to figure out.

To test out the performance of this bad boy, I set every video detail to the maximum level possible for Unreal Tournament 2003. Can I say, WOOHOO! This thing rocks! I mean, I saw everything in very fine detail.

Once you get passed the installing issues, [Don't give up too easily, it's worth it if you get it working] the thing just rocks.

I waited 4 years for a good deal on a video card, and this is the motherload.

Here's my setup:

AMD Athlon T-Bird 1.0GHz OC'd to 1.2GHz
512MB SDRAM
160GB HD Space

If I can get it to work with this setup, I don't see why someone couldn't get it working the latest hardware. As you can tell, mine is decent, ok, not too good.

This is as good as everyone says or better.

I do have some technical advice for people who may have been having problems. I had an Nvidia 4400 in my machine and I removed it and installed the Radeon 9700 Pro. At first it worked OK, but then it started locking up on me. The only game that seemed to do this was EverQuest, but since it is my main game, that was unacceptable. I couldn't get it to work so I traded it in for a 4600. Seeing NO performance increase over my 4400, I returned it and tried another 9700 Pro, thinking the first one may have been defective. Well, once I installed the card I got the same lock up issues. I tried the latest drivers and no help. Then as I decided to remove the card drivers to try again, I noticed I STILL had an NVIDIA display driver in ADD/REMOVE programs. Once I removed that driver and rebooted it has worked FLAWLESSLY. I also am using the Hercules drivers even though I have the standard ATI model. Not sure if this makes a difference but I thought I'd mention it.

I love this card and recommend it highly. I am an avid computer gamer and play all the current games that require computer power. Get this card, you will not be disappointed!!!!

Strengths: Easy to setup, stable as a rock

Weakness: None that I can find

I use this card for working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and have found it to be incredible at redrawing the complex objects in a GIS. A previous card could not draw all the objects at all when zooming in, this one has beautiful detail at all resolutions.

One very nice thing is the way it handles digital orthophotography images (pictures of the ground shot from either space or planes). ATI's technology really reduces blockiness when zooming up close. I work with 30cm resolution images and this card allows me to see some distress features in pavements and parking lots.

I doubt I'll ever go back to nVidia as this card does everything i could ever want. i never did look at the manual to install it, never needed to. The drivers even worked for another ATI PCI card in my system to drive an additional monitor - that was great!!!!

I have a 512MB Athlon XP 1700+ Win XP machine on a no name MB and this card can't be beat for ease of use and stability. Granted it is pricey, but compared to an Elsa Gloria III at $900 more and not that much better performance, I'll stick with ATI.

Strengths: No way to tell since it can't be installed by anyone less than an expert.

Weakness: The people who wrote and approved the manual are lazy, The Tech support is worse, they couldn't care less if anyone ever gets the thing to work.

The manual was done by a lazy lazy lazy person and the tech support people make them look energetic. The manual is terrible, its inacurate for most computers sold in the last 10 years. Tech support made feel like I was trying to get something from the government.

I learned a lesson here - stay way clear of ATI products.

Strengths: Radeon 9700 Pro AGP 128MB !!!! what else you wanto to hear?

Weakness: None

Sharp 2d output, dual display Hydravision, stable drivers, and stellar performance also makes the 9700 a great choice for professional graphics in addition to gaming. For 3D Studio max I'm currently using the OpenGL driver, and the program has been very stable. There's nothing like using 4x anti-aliasing for viewports! See Rage3d.com's forums for the proper methods on updating drivers and you'll have nothing but smooth sailing with this card.

Weakness: The price depends on where you buy it, but the trade in program helps

I built my own machine ( soyo dual AMD proc 512 ddr mem 17 proveiw monitor on win xp pro ) My dvd's run clean with no hitches all my role playing games run just fine with some updates from the man web site..
I'm almost ready to throw out my tv if it wasn't for my p2...
I've always loved ATI card's my last ATI card ( xpert 2000 ) out lasted my computer coming from win 98SE days...
my nephew has that computer now and still plays game that needs 64 mgs of mem the only time it give a problem when it is trying to load alot of frames..but i've never heard him say that he wants a new video card for the computer....
As far a i see ATI is the best video card that you can buy for the price and performance that it gives and the life time of the card...I've had other cards and lost them to simple things like droping it from a table not that it's something you want to do but my ATI video cards have been though a lot and they always give me 150 % every time..
Even my note book has a ATI card in it and i won't buy a note book that doesn't have one...
Not that i've never tried other cards but they don't hold up in the long run and they always fail to perform when under alot of work or just having fun...
There is nothing worse than a choppy game when you get to the good parts of it or have it lock up when the game starts to show a movie..
My last note is that i've always been able to find drivers for my ATI card on there web site with out adding any tweeks to it

No problems with installation -- it always astounds me when people have problems with ATI cards. Did you uninstall your previous card COMPLETELY? Are you sure? I've installed over 3 dozen ATI cards for people and the only time I've ever had problems is when a friend went from a GF2 to a Radeon8500 -- he told me he uninstalled everything properly -- WRONG! You've got to uninstall everything -- video drivers (ATI or nVidia) take over a system and if they aren't all gone, you've got problems.

Now would someone tell the UT2003 team they need to re-code this game of the year candidate in DX9....please?

Strengths: Loaded with features, including DirectX 9 compatibility.

Weakness: Despite glowing reviews to the contrary, my experience is that the drivers are NOT yet stable by a long shot.

I recently swapped out the Ti-4600 that my new Gateway 700XL (1 GB RAM, P4 2.8 GHz, 120 MB HD) and have had an endless series of problems, even with the latest edition of the Catalyst drivers. 2 of my 3D games, RTCW and Soldier of Fortune II both experience intermittent lockups and corrupted graphics. The problem as yet is not something I can consistently reproduce, but it is something that did not occur until the minute I took the Nvidia board out and put this one in. On three occasions, I have had the games simply halt and the computer will reboot without warning. Can't seem to find anyone who has reported this happening, but no one at either Gateway or ATI seems to express much interest in fixing the problem, or even trying to understand it. Would love to keep this board, but I think I'll slip the Nvidia back in and chalk this up to bad luck...at least the Nvidia worked with all my software without a single hitch.

Absolutely, the best and fastest video card on the market.Reasonably priced considering what Nvidia is still asking for TI 4600. Absolute must have for Gamers Or anybody else looking to build a high performance system. I have not had a single problem with installation or any other issues with is card.Highly recommended.

Strengths: Dear Sweet Jeebus Monkeys, THAT'S ALOT OF NUTS!

Weakness: uh, I cant play any directx9 games yet, not that its radeons fault

I can summarize this new card in one word ... *DROOL* ... the truth, its the fastest card on the market, with an insanely competitive price (like the exact same price all GF4 Ti4600's where a week ago), and its fully DX9 compatible.
To make a long story short, Congrads Radeon! You've won for now! If you want to buy the perfect card right now, buy this!
For those nVidia faithful (you know who you are), you can always wait a couple months to see their response (I'm sure it will be sweet).....

Ohh, and the Radeons have linux drivers...nice. And even the windows ones are stable this time around. (not like the 8500)

I bought it, I paid $380, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Happy gamin'!

I just bought it...it is way different from nvidia...it is small...it has small fan...doesn't make noise...the picture is great...to those who doesn't know how to install...change the agp voltage in bios if say u use 4x then the voltage should be 1.5v and then in smartgart item...select the agp speed to 4x...it goes great then...ta ta

This is one great card for those low-on-cash gamers. Its the best performance ive ever seen( well that is after taking out my 7000) the 7000 was great but this is better. i never had enough cash (im 14 people) to buy a 9200 or up, so i just got this. i used this card way past its life (and for that matter my computer too) it was powerful enough to play Halo moderatley, and works great with directx9
i did have some problems installing it in my new computer, but that was the motherboards fault. it was finiky where i put it and sadly i had to pull out my 7000 and use that because the 7500 was a PCI slot...and the new one hates video on PCI

Strengths: Fastest card I have owned.

Weakness: Sone early difficulty with lockups. Tweaking BIOS solved all problems

Great card. Built a new system for gaming with this card. Used all default BIOS settings and kept getting lockups. ATI Tech support somewhat helpful, but found answer to my problem on help message boards. One of ATI's solutions was to disable acceleration which was unacceptable. Took two days of tweeking the BIOS to find just the right combo but card is super stable now and have not had a single crash. Highly recommend this product, once you get it working you won't regret it.

Strengths: 3D Benchmark produced high numbers, but...it FLICKERS like crazy !!!!!!!!!!!!

Weakness: my card flickered at any resolution! Yes, I even upped my monitor refresh rate to 85 mhz at 1600x1200 without any luck.

I tried to get this card to work for 3 days straight, but the flickering would not go away. I upgraded the driver to 3.2, but still got the same dizzying flickering! I might try the 9800 now, since I couldn't get the 9700 to work for the life of me. I wouldn't dare care support because it's a long distant number (damn canadians!) My geForce ti4200 128 mb works fine though, but I want to play 3D games @ 1600x1200 with all the features turned on. I'm running a P4 2.4 Ghz with 786 meg of DDR memory too.
