Corsair 1GB Flash Voyager USB Drive

Strengths: Extremely fast transfer speeds. Works well with USB 1.1 and even better with USB 2.0. Extension cord so I don't have to keep crawling behind my desktop tower to plug it in. Rubber coating.

Weakness: None found yet.

I needed something to transfer my digital pictures from my desktop computer to my laptop to my work computer. My desktop though only has USB 1.1 via the ASUS CSL2 motherboard. I don't have a home network and my desktop does not have a functional CDRW or DVDRW drive. Since I have a lot of pictures I need to transfer, I wanted a large USB flash drive at a reasonable price. The Corsair Voyager 1GB flash drive is that product.

Downloading 980MB of pictures from my desktop to the Voyager took 19 minutes (little less than 1 MB/Sec, or about the max capacity of USB 1.1). Uploading the same 980 MB to my Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop, which has USB 2.0, took a little over 1 minute. Phenomenal! So I deleted all the data on the Voyager, and wrote the same 980 MB back to the Voyager and it took a little over 1 minute. Impressive indeed. Results identical with my IBM desktop with USB 2.0 at work. That's around 16MB/sec. To be precise, you need a watch with a second hand and I don't have one...and I wasn't expecting to need one.

I used windows explorer to perform the transfer and I have Windows XP Pro on all 3 machines. Although a mini-CD with drivers came with the flash drive, there was no need to install them with Windows XP Pro. XP Pro recognized the flash drive and set up the connection automatically and flawlessly.

Finally, I did experiment with the Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard transfers and it was not quite as fast as using Windows Explorer. Not slow enough to be significant, but it was a little (guessing 30 sec slower on a 1+ minute transfer).

Oh, I mentioned the extender. It's about 18 inches long so once you plug it in to your computer, you can leave it in for easy access, which is very handy for me since my tower is under my desk and the USB connectors are on the back of the case. Finally, you get a nifty little neck strap to carry your flash drive around. The strap attaches to one end of the drive to a rubber eyehook. I feel like if I pull the strap I could break the rubber eyehook. The whole thing is coated with a soft rubber coating to protect it against drops. All in all, I expect products like this from Corsair and so far it has delivered.

Corsair 1GB Flash Voyager USB Drive

Strengths: Lightweight, stylish, fast, may partition or password protect.

Weakness: Casing easily attracts lint and dust.

I am very pleased with the Corsair 1 GB Flash Voyager USB 2.0 Flash Drive. As advertized, it is fast both uploading and downloading, light, water and shock proof.

1GB Flash Voyager USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Strengths: Cost, Size, Capacity

Weakness: None

Nothing makes me more interested in buying something than one of my relatives telling me it's good.

I've wanted on of these to replace an older USB1.0 64MB drive I've had for years, but been waiting for something around this size at a really good price.

There's not much difference in all these things from my perspective. They have different shapes, sizes, etc -- some fit on your keychain, some have caps... all that comes down to personal preferences.

This one is a little bigger than some of them; probably average in thickness, long in length. Covered with soft plastic (not sure that matters too much). Has a place to put it on your key chain, but it's made of soft plastic too so I wouldn't trust it not to give way. Has a cap, again made of soft plastic -- so probably will keep out moisture and you might get away if you drop it in water with no damage -- but I don't think I will be trying that.

Comes with a neck strap (you can put in the same place I was talking about for a key chain -- and probably better for it than a keychain).

Comes with a extension cable so you can plug it into a usb connecter that's not got extra room around it.

For me it's a simple matter of price and capacity -- I just want it to keep some personal files on so I got them with me -- you have to decide what you're going to use it for and whether you like this one better than the others.

How do you rate it a 4 and not give a weakness to the item?

Can't tell from the picture...I want to know if I have side-by-side ports will this block the second USB.

If you have two USB ports side-by-side you can probably get a second one in (the rubber covering is soft)... but it depends on what you're trying to put next to it -- a second one of these will fit on my machine, but it's tight, and I don't think I would recommend it...

Corsair 1GB Flash Voyager USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Strengths: Good rubber casing, some what water proof. Small but not too small that it will get lost easily. Price is not bad.

Weakness: Doesn't look too nice, other then that it seems good.

I always loved my floppy disk before I found out about USB flash memories...Now USB memory is my favorite. I use to have a 32Mb one that was nothing compaired to this one, lost fast and lots of memory availible. Would recommend this to any one that is always on the go and need to store a bit of info here and there. Befor when I had the floppy disk I would constantly loose the disk because I have so many but now this keeps it all together.

1GB Flash Voyager

Strengths: Solid product, excellent performance.

Weakness: Lint and such can stick to the rubberized surface.

This is one of the best USB flashdrives I have used. The performance is amazing and the durability is superb. And you can't beat a 10 year warranty, not that anyone would use one of these for that long. Highly recommended.

Corsair 1GB Flash Voyager USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Strengths: Solid construction, rubberized body, utility software, price

Weakness: Slightly larger than I would like.

I use this to transfer information when 'sneaker net' works best. 1GB is plenty for most needs.

The write & read times are reasonably fast.

No drivers were required on WinXP or Win2003 -- the utility program installs easily, and offers the ability to use encryption (not really of interest to me -- but I did test it, and it does work; no clue as to how strong the encryption is).

The unit is only slightly larger than a USB connector; however two will not fit side by side in a standard USB stack. The units do ship with an extender cable that will resolve this problem. The only negative I have is that it's just slightly two large, and while complaining about the size I would have liked to have seen it 1/2" or so shorter as well.

Since I would say it's rare that you would want to plug two in toghther (and their is a solution for that included with it), I give it a very high rating.

The most important thing is -- IT WORKS!

Corsair 1 GB Flash Voyager USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Strengths: Very well made, rubberized body, 1 GB size, and price

Weakness: Rubberized body easily attracts lint and dust.

The Corsair 1 GB Flash Voyager USB 2.0 Flash Drive has worked very well since I purchased it. It is very fast in both writing and reading files, while having plenty of capacity at 1GB. Physically, it is slightly larger than the smallest USB drives. However, it is still small, light and water/shock resistant.

In some laptops that use a dual stacked USB configuration, you cannot use this drive directly while the other USB connector is being used. You can, however, use the supplied extender cable to connect the drive in this situation.

The cases of some other USB drives are smooth and easier to drop. The Cosair's rubberized case reduces this possibility. However, it easily attracts lint and dust. This isn't much of a problem, since the lint is easily rubber off.

Overall, I am very pleased with this USB drive.

Corsair Flash Voyager

Strengths: Price,speed,size,Corsair.

Weakness: None

This is the BEST USB flash drive that I have used yet. It is so much faster than any of my other ones and has twice as much memory on it that I will not need to worry if I have enough space for what I want to save on it. Thank you Corsair and PriceGrabber.

Not Durable!

Strengths: Worked great while it was all in one piece

Weakness: Fell apart within 1 month of being on my keychain

I wanted a good, durable USB flash drive to put on my key chain. I found this guy and it worked great - to start. I don't abuse my gadgets at all, I only had it on my keychain which was in my pocket most of the time. One day I took it out and the entire tip of the usb interface was no longer there! I know the strategy was rubber = forgiving = durable. However in this case it was the solder connecting the USB interface to the 1gb memory which was the downfall. Ultimately a flawed design. Do not buy this if you want a truely portable flash drive.

Excellent USB Flash Drive

Strengths: Fast access, solid construction, small size, good software utility

Weakness: (Minor) Potential to lose protective cover

I am very impressed by this flash drive. It is solid and fast to access files. No problem using it with Windows XP; it is recognized and available for use right away. The water resistand cap and covering are a nice touch - this drive seems much more rugged than other flash drives I've seen. I am most pleased with it.

very good

Strengths: compact, solid, fast

Weakness: easy to lose cap

so far this product has been great, I transfer movies and music easily between computers. It has rubber cover which makes me think it'd be kind of durable (just the feeling), although i don't believe it's water resistant. so far so good, would recommend to buy it

Data Transfer on the Run:High-Speed USB Flash Drives

We received two versions of the Flash Voyager, one with 1 GB, the other with 2 GB of storage capacity. The two devices look so much alike that we had to examine the USB connectors on each one closely to tell them apart -that's where the vendor engraves the drive's capacity.
