Great Product for the price

Strengths: 1) Easy to use 2) Small and handy..easily fits into my laptop bag

Weakness: The USB cable bundled in the package is short; I had to purchase a longer one.

This is a great product for the price I paid. I travel a lot and wanted something that will not only store my data but be light enough not to add to the weight of my laptop bag.

This product is perfect for people who travel alot and are in constant need of disk-space.

80 GB Passport Hard Drive...awesome!!!

I use my hard drive for videos and music files. I like how it's so small and easy to use. I can take anywhere with me. It has just the right amount of memory for just the right price.

Western Digital Passport External 80GB Portable Hard...

Strengths: Great product to carry with you all the time. Very easy to install and use. All you need to do is plug into USB

I backed up my data and it worked perfect. Does not take too much time to transfer all the data. It's portability is another advantage so i can carry it with me just like a jump driver only difference it stores great amount of data. I strongly recommend it. Reasonable price for an awesome product.

Quick & Easy Storage Solution

Strengths: Good per-GB price for a portable HD, plug-and-play set-up.

Weakness: The glossy exterior won't stay pretty for long with normal use.

The laptop's internal hard drive was filling up fast, and this little brick gave me exactly what I wanted: a quick, simple storage upgrade with no hassles. Spindle speed is a plus - very quick on read and write.

While the glossy finish seems to be increasingly popular, I wonder if it's necessary or even appropriate considering the kind of use this thing will see.

Overall, highly recommended for road warriors needing more space.

Strengths: Nice design. Very light.

Weakness: Has no bag, USB cable is too short. Very weak plastic cover.

It looks gorgeous, but plastic cover is very weak. You
should not touch this external hdd while it is in data
tranfer. WD should have made it with aluminum case.

NOT WORKING!

Strengths: Pretty, slim, light

Weakness: Not reliable, works very slowly, needs extra power to work on my mac laptop, light-duty case, NOW IT DOESN'T EVEN WORK!

I bought this thing early last year and only used it 3 times (when it was still working). I used it to back up my files on my laptop, and it worked slowly until now. I plugged it in my laptop yesterday. Same laptop, same USB cable, same powered-USB hub, same everything. And now, it doesn't recognize the Passport.
As a note, I never damaged it. Never dropped it, never bothered it when it was transferring, stored at a cool dry place, never near extreme temperatures or fire or anything. So why did this happen?
If anyone can help me out there, please do. I'm not the only one who has this problem. If you're thinking of buying this product, don't! Maybe newer versions (only if they fixed their many problems).

This drive was a snap, no install,
Not one problem with Mac 10.4.11
10.5 Time Machine will want to wipe the drive to use the drive as a back up.

Strengths: size (small), weight (light), price (good)

Weakness: short cable & confusing programs bundled on it

I was prepared for the short cable from other postings. Now at least they're shipping it with a disclaimer that says they know it's short- whatever. I haven't experienced any power drain on my computer by having this hooked up (I've read that happens sometimes). Maybe I don't have enough stuff on it yet?

My only problem with this HD, and maybe it's just my lack of experience, is that I thought it was strange this hardware was bundled with Google downloads sitting on the HD. I think I'll just delete them. Also, I was hoping to use the WD Sync program it comes with as a way to schedule back-ups, but there's no way to use it that way (that I've found).

I think once I figure out how to just use my ntbackup.exe, I'll be off and running on this thing the way I want it to. So far, no real complaints, I guess I'm just figuring out how to get it to do what I want to do- but that's not the hardware's fault!

4 stars only because it's still relatively new!

Very Pleased

Strengths: enjoy the sleek design and easy setup

I needed it for backing up files from my laptop. So far the software that came with it has worked and I have been able to transfer my important files to it. Sometimes the software will take a while to process requests, but I think overall it is a good buy.

Strengths: Easy to install; easy to use; compact

This external drive is very easy to install, very easy to use, and I enjoy its portability. It was very reasonably priced for its value. It is great extra storage device, and I strongly recommend it.

sleek looking and good performance

Strengths: an affordable solution to large data storage. very light and support plug and play. 5400RPM HD

Weakness: no protection case in the package

i bought this portable hard drive for around $40. and i'm very happy for this purchase. it has much better performance than those flash drives, and is perfect to store large files and data.

WD Passport - AWESOME!!!

Strengths: Very compact, Very fast, easily identifiable on computer, virtually no install...just plug it to USB and go!

Weakness: None to note!

Great for music storage...super fast!! I am so pleased w/ this product and wonder why I have not purchased an external drive b/f now! So much easier than backing up to a CD! Super easy...a dummy could set this up w/ no problem! :) Love it! Highly recommend! by the way, I actually looked online at tech review sites and it was given very good reviews at several places.
