GigaByte GIGA-BYTE Radeon 9600 XT Graphics Card

Strengths: Great performance for the money, quiet, OverDrive, AGP 8x, 3 bundled games

Weakness: None yet

I bought this as an upgrade from an XFX GeForce4 64MB, and I was amazed at what this card can do. I can play Battle Field:1942 at 1600x1200 with all settings on high without a hint of lag. It can run dual monitors, which is nice, and it includes a DVI-VGA converter so you can run 2 CRT monitors too. GigaByte includes a 'V-Tuner' utility that lets you overclock the card, but I like to enable OverDrive and let the card OC itself. If you buy this card, be sure to check at ATi's website and get the latest catalyst drivers.

Overall, this card is a great performance card for people on a tight budget.

best 9600xt

Strengths: Quiet, afordable, great software bundle

Weakness: None

This card comes with a great software package and is probably the best buy out there for the money. Had another brand 9600xt with heatpipe cooling and it burned out due to temps. This card has a great fan/heatsink cooler that is quiet and cools extremely well. Plays even the newest games on high.

GigaByte GIGA-BYTE Radeon 9600 XT Graphics Card

Strengths: Durable, customizable, appears to be of quality construction. Runs any game to date very well. Runs quite well with AF.

Weakness: A little slow in comparison to the 9800's and up. Higher resolutions and anti-alansing tends to make the card hiccup. Doesn't seem to like some VIA chipsets.

This card is great for the price. It has played everything ive thrown at it, most notably Doom 3 and Half-life 2. The usual game resolution that i run is 1024x768, simply because i know that it can play with that resolution quite well. I've ventured into the higher resolutions and turned on AF and its worked pretty well.

Only real problem was that when i installed it onto a new motherboard running a relatively new VIA chipset (just barely pre-SATA ready), windows would kill my video. Found out later it was an issue between the VIA agp-to-pci bridge driver. had to change it to the generic Windows one and no more problems. not sure if it hurt performance tho. haven't really noticed anything, but its certainly something i sometimes wonder about when im laying in bed at night (not really ;o).

9600 XT was a great card!

Strengths: Powerful 128MB of Ram, Cooling fan on graphics card, comes with a DVI to VGA converter, and the ability to do dual monitors

Weakness: packed games are weak, gigabyte videocard software is crap

This is a great mid-range video card. I bought mine in March 2004 for $169 and it is still a great powerhouse. I don't do a lot of video gaming but I do watch a lot of DVD's. I have 1GB of RAM on the mobo and have no problems at all. You won't find a better ATI 9600XT for the price, and let me remind you there is a big difference between the 9600 and the 9600XT

--Update I sold my card in Aug 2006, but before I sold it I was still able to run Battlefield 2 and ran Oblivion on low settings with no slow down. This was a great card, and would still be a low cost solution. Fair warning a lot of new games need Direct X 9.0c, this card is can play the games (updates) but not use the cool features.

GigaByte GIGA-BYTE Radeon 9600 XT Graphics Card

Strengths: Fast, pretty quiet, 3 bundled games, DVI port, 8xAGP

Weakness: Still looking

This is an upgrade from a ASUS GeForce 2 Pro (64MB) card. It was reviewed very well on Anandtech's 1st Quarter 2004 card roundup, where it has one of the best scores for 9600XT cards. Performs great for what I need it to do, without requiring direct power from the PSU. Has S-video and DVI. The three bundled games is an added bonus.
